Salisbury police said a city officer and a suspect in a domestic incident were hospitalized after their two vehicles collided Tuesday morning.

At approximately 4:12 a.m., Salisbury police were sent to the 400 block of Camden Avenue on a reported domestic dispute.

Police said they found Michael Victor Rayne, 27, of Salisbury was reported to have been involved in a verbal argument with his live-in girlfriend. Police said Rayne broke a window of a neighbor's home.

As officers arrived on the scene, police said, Rayne entered a vehicle and subsequently fled the area. Officers remained on the scene and did not pursue Rayne.

At about 4:18 a.m., Salisbury Police Officer Zachary Converse was traveling on Camden Avenue to assist with the call when the collision occurred on Camden in the area of Maryland Avenue, police said. Camden Avenue remained closed for several hours due to the investigation and subsequent repair of a downed utility pole.

Capt. Rich Kaiser said Tuesday afternoon the cause of the collision has not yet been officially determined.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team was contacted and responded to conduct the accident investigation, which will include a reconstruction and determination of fault.

Salisbury Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Converse and Rayne to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they were evaluated and treated for their injuries. Due to the severity of injuries, both the officer and the suspect were transferred to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

Kaiser said both Converse and Rayne have nonlife-threatening but serious injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing and charges are pending against Rayne. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department 410-548-3165 or Crime Solvers 410-548-1776.
