Worcester DUI patrol nets 4 arrests Saturday

STAFF REPORT

Four people were arrested for DUI during a special Worcester County saturation patrol effort Saturday night.

According to Maryland State Police, 306 vehicles were checked during a one-hour checkpoint operation, held from 11 p.m. to midnight on Route 50.

Police said during the hour-long checkpoint, no motorists were directed to conduct field sobriety testing or were arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Two vehicles failed to stop as directed and were determined to be confused drivers, 73 and 74 years of age.

However, personnel conducted a saturation patrol, simultaneous to and following the checkpoint, which resulted in four DUI arrests and a civil citation for possession of marijuana, less than 10 grams, police said.

The checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of Route 50 and Silver Point Lane. It was a cooperative effort between the Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff's Office, Berlin Police Department, Ocean City Police Department, Ocean Pines Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources.
