Needle found in Halloween candy in Salisbury

He alerted his parents, who then called the Salisbury Police Department.But during Halloween weekend, on Sunday, Nov. 1, a 15-year-old opened a pack of the delicious licorice that he acquired while trick-or-treating. Before eating the candy, he found a sewing needle lodged inside of the strawberry treat.

Needle in Salisbury child's Twizzler was hoax

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Salisbury Officers responded to the 1000 block of Grant Avenue for a report that a child's Halloween candy was found to contain a sewing needle. Initial investigation revealed that on Oct. 31, the family was trick-or-treating in the areas of Russell Avenue, Druid Hill Avenue, Riverside Drive, West College, Camden Avenue, Evergreen Avenue and Monticello Avenue in Salisbury, police said.

The lot number for this particular package of candy is 701-86472-004. The Salisbury Police Department is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation concerning this ongoing investigation.

The 15-year-old did not eat any of the Twizzlers and there were no injuries reported.

Sewing needles found in Halloween candy in Calvert Co.

Salisbury Police Captain Rich Kaiser said that there were no other reports of Halloween candy tampering this past weekend in the areas of Wicomico County including Salisbury and Fruitland. Kaiser said that these incidents are "very rare" and it's been years since a similar report has been made.

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office said they didn't receive any calls about Halloween tampering this past weekend.

According to a report from Kim Mulford from the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, there have been reports of tampered Halloween candy in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Minnesota over the past few days. In Ohio, a razor blade was found in a Snicker's bar.
