Nurse practitioner Tammy Walbert, left, and Dr. Nicole Alu will be the providers in the new Peninsula Regional Family Medicine office on May 4.

A Peninsula Regional Family Medicine office will open May 4 on the lower level of the H. Gray Reeves Medical Building directly across from the Salisbury hospital.

This will be the first primary care office opened by Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury in over two decades, officials said. An open house to introduce the staff and providers to Salisbury and tour the practice will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

There are other family medicine offices operated by PRMC on Chincoteague Island and in Laurel, Millsboro, Ocean Pines, Ocean View, Berlin and Snow Hill, with 10 specialty practices as well, said Roger Follebout, community relations director.

"This office will be a source of great pride for PRMC and will provide much needed additional health care access to our community," added Thomas DeMarco, vice president of Peninsula Regional Medical Group.

Carolyn Reinke, chief operating officer, said the demand for more family medicine is higher than ever. She said the Salisbury office will help to expand the hospital's outreach through the region. There are lab outreach programs already established, Reinke said, and to further reach new patients in the community this office will have rotating specialists for visits and mobile care vans.

The new office is staffed by Nicole Alu and Tammy Cahall-Walbert.

Cahall-Walbert has more than 25 years of nursing experience and was a member of PRMC's Emergency/Trauma Team. She received her Master of Science in Nursing as part of the Family of Nurse Practitioner Program at Wilmington University in 2003.

Alu has been practicing family medicine since 1996 after receiving her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing her residency at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in New York.

Follebout said Alu and Cahall-Walbert will begin as the primary caretakers but will expand the practice as demand requires.

The practice is accepting patients of all ages; call 410-912-5785 to schedule an appointment. The office is open 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
