A Salisbury man was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder in connection with the August 2015 killing of Dommeir Deshields.

After deliberating for about an hour, a Wicomico County jury returned the verdict against 22-year-old Delonte A. Bryant. Bryant was accused of gunning down 21-year-old Deshields near the intersection of Anne and Baker Streets in Salisbury just before noon on Aug. 3, 2015.

Deshields' death was overshadowed in the local media by the killing of 17-year-old Rakim Russell on Aug. 2, 2015.

Bryant, who according to previous reports is no stranger to the criminal justice system, was also found guilty of second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and three firearms charges.

Following the verdict, Assistant State's Attorney Karen Dean announced she would drop a filing to pursue life without parole for Bryant.

Circuit court judge Kathleen Beckstead ordered Bryant to continue to be held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center pending sentencing. A sentencing date has yet to be determined, the judge added.
